2011 Lanikai Triathlon

It's a little late but finally getting around to it. I had all intentions of doing this myself but since the Achilles is still hurting, I changed it over to a two man relay. It was my first time doing the Lanikai Triathlon so I wasn't sure what to expect. Overall, I thought we did pretty well for a two person team. We got 112/354 overall, 9/23 overall relay, 4/5 male realy. Times were 1:13:36, swim 55/354 - 9:10, bike 128/354 32:07, run 159/354 30:05. Oh, post-race snacks were awesome. Can't go wrong with free Jamba juice. Up next, 2 man relay action for the Honolulu Triathlon Olympic distance.
Here's the only pic I could find. I dunno who the woman in the back of me was but it was really entertaining to play bike tag with her over the whole bike course.

Curry Turkey Meatballs

I'm finally getting around to posting again. With the Achilles injury, the 3 day sickness, visitors, furlough days and work, things have been pretty hectic. Anyways, I was sick a few weeks ago with who knows what. I woke up in the morning feeling real dizzy, feverish, body aches and a pounding headache. Sounds like I was hungover right? However I didn't drink at all the night before. It was horrible. I wished that I was hungover instead. So by Friday afternoon, I felt a lot better and had a strange craving for meatballs. After a quick search on Foodgawker, I found a recipe for Curry Turkey Meatballs from Life's Ambrosia (also couldn't resist that smile) and decided to give it a shot.

Ingredients:
1lb ground turkey or pork
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
1 1/2t madras curry powder
1/4t cumin
pinch of salt
1 beaten egg
1/3 plain bread crumbs
Olive oil

1. Preheat oven 350deg
2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Roll into balls (should make approx 20)
3. Heat olive oil in oven safe pan or regular pan over medium heat. Brown all sides of 10 meatballs, remove and do the same for the remaining 10. If you're using the oven safe pan, place meatballs back into pan and place in oven. If not, place on baking dish. Bake for 15min or until cooked through.

Mashed potatoes were basically instant mashed potatoes with capers and garlic added in. Garnished with green onions and carrot.

My ride

Just thought I'd share some pics of my current ride. It's not much so I'm hoping it will get the job done. It's a 2005 Quintana Roo Lucero with the usual Shimano components. Hopefully next year I get a raise, find a lot of money or get a great tax return so I can upgrade to some Zipp or HED carbon wheels.
Mmm..Carbon fiber..

Cobb V-Flow Plus

Finally getting around to writing my review of the V-Flow Plus. The folks at Cobb saddles provided me with detailed instructions and a DVD on how to install the seat. Installation of the new seat was pretty simple and straight forward. I then did a short ride on the trainer and instantly felt a difference between the two seats. With the Selle, I felt like I was sitting on a wood board and couldn't stay in the aero position very long. Sitting on the V-Flow felt....well it just felt a lot better.

V-Flow installed.
Side view of Selle. Not much padding but hey, it weighs about a 135g.
Top view of V-Flow plus. It has a cut out, which helps to make things comfy.
Selle. No cut out.

So after this weekends 3hr ride, I'm really glad I chose the Cobb V-Flow Plus. With the Selle, numbness would occur after an hour of riding, with the Cobb, I could still feel things after a 3hr ride. Awesomeness.

Update on Achilles issue. It still hurts but not as bad as the first week. Visited the doctor yesterday and he suggested that I wear a "Ski boot" to help the recovery process. I still can't run so  I started water jogging at the pool. All I have to say is that it get's pretty boring after the first ten minutes. Oh well, can't get everything.
